I just spent a week on the outer banks of North Carolina... having never been beforeI was, to say the least, a bit curious why so many people described it as heaven on earth.
The Outer Banks is perhaps the most relaxing place I've ever been. I was amazed by all the miniature golf courses, and fun activities for kids, on top of the wonderful beaches for boogie boarding and such.
There is also the Wright Memorial, which was fun to check out, and the famous Cape Hatteras Lighthouse where I found out that sailors from German U-Boats came ashore on the outerbanks of NC during WWII to buy supplies! They were fluent in English and the locals had no idea at first that their new customers were enemy soldiers. When they finally figured it out they stopped lighting that lighthouse each night, saying it was as if they were extending an invitation to the enemy!
I picked up several books about it that I can't wait to read!
